Hello there,
well after selling around 10 of those to customers, I finally got a look into the insides of the thing. The Thecus 5200 Pro is basically a "normal" computer: it has a CPU, RAM, HDD ( 64/128MB Flash drive ) and most other components, it misses a graphics card though.
My plan for it, so far is to put Debian on the box, which is not hard at all:
just get another 44pin flash thingy ( e.g. Transcend 1024MB IDE Flash Modul IDE 44pin horizontal bulk, available on Amazon ), put that one into a another computer, install Debian on it and put it right back into your Thecus. That´s about it. You really do not have to replace the flash modul, but its nice to keep the original as it was, so in case something wents bad you have the original.
Opening the box is quite easy too, after you have unscrewed the back of the Thecus and removed it ( be sure to unplug the cooler ) you can move the hood a bit forward and after that you can just lift it off.
I will upload some pictures to my gallery later so you can take a look.
